The owner is the client.
We are engaged by the person carrying the risk, and we report to them. Independence is not a slogan; it is the commercial structure.
About / 03
Buildcheck Advisory is a small Perth practice built around one idea: the people paying for a building deserve an expert who answers only to them.
01 / Director
More than twenty years inside construction. Now firmly on the owner’s side.
Matt Christopher founded Buildcheck Advisory in 2012 but it wasn't until a klonopin overdose and a door knock from the ATO in 2026 that he decided to go back on the books. With a historical 20 years as a project manager for a various big fuck off outfits and four years client-side in property development. He has seen the same failures and caused a handful of his own: details nobody owns, variations nobody questions, and defects discovered when the final payment is already due.
Matt leads every review, works directly with the owner and keeps the reporting language free of construction theatre. When a specialist is needed, despite his woeful typing speed and progressive cognitive decline; he brings just enough to meet scope rather than inventing a department.
Buildcheck has advised private owners, family offices, schools, local government, strata companies and not-for-profits across Perth and regional Western Australia. (cashies but)

02 / How we work
The method is not complicated. It is just applied consistently, on every project, whether the news is good or not.
We are engaged by the person carrying the risk, and we report to them. Independence is not a slogan; it is the commercial structure.
Photographs, drawing references, standards and cost consequence. If we cannot evidence it, we do not put it in the report as fact.
A finding is only useful while there is still time to change the outcome. We escalate early and explain why it matters.
Every engagement ends with a clear register, a close-out position and a document set the next person can pick up.
03 / Credentials
Technical knowledge matters, but judgement is the service. We know when a detail is merely untidy and when it will cost six figures to fix after handover.
Where a project needs a registered building surveyor, structural engineer, heritage consultant or specialist access consultant, we coordinate that appointment and keep the advice joined up.
04 / Coverage
Metropolitan reviews are usually scheduled within a week. Regional work is quoted with travel at cost, agreed before we start.
We work on Whadjuk Noongar Country and across Aboriginal lands throughout Western Australia. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and their continuing connection to land, water and community.
05 / The team
One director, a core review team and trusted specialists engaged for the scope they know best.
Director
Leads design reviews, owner’s representation and the awkward conversations that protect the owner’s position.
Senior Building Auditor
Condition assessments, building envelope, moisture investigation and access audits across existing buildings.
Project Manager
Contract administration, programme controls and site monitoring for commercial and education projects.
Documentation Lead
Drawing coordination, report production and the evidence register that keeps every finding traceable.
